050018: A Novel Tomographic Imaging System Using a Conformable Mirror
Case ID:
TEC2005-0018
Web Published:
7/21/2014
Description:
Michigan
State University’s technology is a conformable mirror for use in computer-aided
tomography (CT) systems. The design eliminates the need for an enclosed space,
which is stressful for children and people with claustrophobia. The mirror is
the only moving component. Software is used to construct the entire tomography
once the data is collected.
Benefits
·
Eliminates the bulky enclosed design common to most CAT
systems
·
Since the mirror is the only moving part, the motion of
source/detection combination is eliminated.
Applications
The
system can be used in CAT scan systems and radiation therapy.
